Book Presentation Day

For our las class meeting, we all shared our books, but unfortunately mine had not made its final destination yet. According to Blurb.com, I will be getting mine tomorrow. I thought all the books were amazing, everyones ideas were good, and the way they all turned out is just priceless. One of them really caught my attention, and since we got to pick one that stood out the most to us I picked the one with the “FACES” by Jason Bates. I really liked it because it is very similar to what I like, which is graffiti. My book was on graffiti too, but seems as he’s more into characters, and that is what his book was about. Different faces, same style, and I really liked the way the book turned out. I also liked how the arrows he added to them connected and made it look mare graffiti style. The work he has on a canvas looks great too, the background colors make the the faces look more “out there”, and I really liked it. Im sure others liked it as well, and I think that his paintings have potential to be up on the wall of a gallery.

Ordover Gallery in Solana Beach

My visit to this gallery in Solana Beach, was not as I had expected. After attending the Natural History Museum, and the Museum of Photographic Arts, I believe I expected more. I walked around and saw some interesting and cool images that caught my eye. After working on panoramas in class, these stood out to me more, and two of them in the gallery I would buy if I had the money. One of them was “San Diego Skyline” by Tom O. Scott and the other was by Duby Tal called ” Jerusalem of Gold”. I liked SD skyline because it showed the buildings and the water at night, with light of the building shining off the water and just making it such a capturing image. I’m a big fan of the night life, and all the lights, it’s very appealing to me, so this caught my eye. “Jerusalem of Gold” also made me look more than once, and the reason why is because I also like looking at an image that holds the whole city together. I like it when I can see most of the homes, and other buildings. I think it’s also interesting when images like those are captured especially of a historic city that everyone knows about. Others were by artist Lisa Ross, whose images like “kokood umbrella”, “Palace Hue, Vietnam”, “Man of the Eiffel Tower”, and “Dubai Towers”. These images were zoomed in, just another perspective, not like the ordinary full image of something. Also something that catches my eye.

Museum of Photographic Arts

This museum, I had visited once already, a couple semesters ago, but my experience was not the same. This time I took my time, read the image description, and their stories are something that we, or atleast I, have not heard of or am aware of. Things like what were described in these descriptive stories do not happen here in America due to our different political views, religions, and traditions. Fazal Shiekh, born in New York City, NY, in 1965. Attended and graduated from Princeton University in 1987. This artist, captures simple images that in their simplicity tell many stories. Some sad, happy, or intense. For example, one of the many that stood out to me was called ” Suniti Chatterje (Good Rule)”, and this one was a picture of a widow, whos husband died, was left alone with three sons, the oldest, 13, when his father passed away. They were a successful family, taught their sons good, and her son, now an engineer, takes care of her as her husband would. He is now man of the house. Another was “Nella Dey (Sapphire)”, and in this image is another picture of a widow, whos son, married and his wife does not get along with his mother. He had to choose sides, and sadly chose his wife and asks his mother to leave them alone. Another sad one was called “Neesha Sharma”, and this one was a picture of a baby daughter (KumKum), who was kicked out by parents of the husband along with the ex-wife of the husband, because he wanted a heir, a male to grow up and be what his dad wanted him to be. This custome is very common in India, and in the middle east. The mom and daughter kicked out when the child was only months old. They tried returning and see if the husband would take them back, but unfortunately he doesn’t and now they are in a shelter along with other citizens that are not wanted. Although they’re safe, the mother still ponders how things would be different, and happy if Kumkum was a boy. This way she says, her husband and her would be really happy. These are all interesting stories, and there were more, some more brutal than the others. I learned new things and this visit made me aware of what happens outside our world.

San Diego Natural History Museum

I know this was announced a while back, but I did attend and decided to blog about it TODAY.

Weekend after week three, I think it was when I made a trip down to San Diego to the Natural History Museum, where I saw artists from Baja California demonstrate their top photographs. Unfortunately, no pictures were allowed to be taken, and unless you were there, you wouldn’t know how nice they were. I did a little sneak attack though, and got a quick snap shot of another picture that was on the wall after the presentation was over. I know I shouldn’t have done it, even one of the staff came and tapped me on the shoulder and said no, but out of all those on the wall, I liked this one the most! Hope you do too, because I kinda got in a bit of trouble.

this is just a picture of the museum, it’s really big, but the showing was on the 4th floor.

I got some new drawings in for my boo, I am excited to finish it, and i hope everything turns out ok. I wanted to share what have in it with you guys before its out. Its a lot of work getting color in my drawings, but I’m not complaining because I like the way they are coming out see for yourselves

These are in my book, I really liked the way “VEGETA” (a dragonball z character) came out, and then the chick on the side looks cool

Collier Schorr

Collier, a photographer who is into taking pictures of boys who look like girls and girls who look like boys, non-soldiers that seem to be soldiers, etc… is a different photographer. She uses images and compares them to those that are really what they are (if that makes sense..). For example, she uses the pictures she took about a boy playing a role as a girl, and compares it to a picture of a real girl. Same poses and tries to get the same expression. She also like to take pictures of what she likes if she were a boy, for example the time she spent taking pictures of high school boys while they practiced wrestling. I think she is different, and unique photographer. Here are some of her pictures…

Novermber 7, 2009, my friends and I went to hollywood to see LMFAO in concert . They are a Hip-Hop/electro artists (crew) who just made it big in their career about a year ago. This is their first tour (Party Rock Tour), and their music is really fun listen to and really catchy. They do remixes to other hit songs and make them bigger hits. I just wanted to share this with everyone, a little bit of me and what I like…
